About ABA

The Aruba Bodyboard Association (ABA) was officially established in March 2010 with the purpose of developing, organizing, and promoting the sport of bodyboarding in Aruba. Formed by a group of committed local athletes and ocean advocates, the association was officialy registered November 2011, in response to the growing popularity of the sport and the need for formal structure, athlete support, and community engagement.

From its inception, ABA has operated as a grassroots, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to creating opportunities for youth and competitive athletes alike. The association provides structured training programs, organizes local competitions, and represents Aruba’s bodyboarding community at regional and international levels. These initiatives have helped transform bodyboarding from an informal activity into a recognized sport with a clear development pathway for young riders.

A central pillar of ABA’s mission is youth development. The association uses bodyboarding as a tool to promote discipline, teamwork, physical fitness, and respect for the marine environment. Through regular training sessions and mentorship, ABA creates a safe and inclusive space where young athletes can grow both personally and competitively. Many participants credit the association with providing positive direction, leadership skills, and a strong sense of belonging.

In addition to athletic development, ABA actively promotes ocean awareness and environmental responsibility. Members are educated on coastal preservation and sustainable practices, reinforcing the association’s commitment to protecting Aruba’s natural resources. This integration of sport and environmental stewardship aligns ABA with broader community values and national interests.

Over the years, Aruba Bodyboard Association has built a reputation for consistency, professionalism, and community impact. Its events attract local audiences, families, and visitors, contributing to sports tourism and showcasing Aruba’s coastal culture. The organization continues to expand its programming and competitive reach, positioning Aruba as an emerging presence within the regional bodyboarding scene.

Today, ABA stands as a structured and forward-thinking sports organization focused on athlete excellence, youth empowerment, and community engagement. Strategic partnerships and sponsorships play a critical role in sustaining this growth. With continued support, Aruba Bodyboard Association aims to elevate its programs, increase international representation, and strengthen Aruba’s identity as an island that carries the spirit, passion and resillient to always keep moving forward with the next wave.
